SC Petrocart SA was set up in 1908. On June 1st, 1925, the company was registered under the name of 'Paper and Raw Cardboard Mill' Piatra Neamt. Since 1948, the company has been known as '"Commune of Paris" Paper and Cardboard Mill' Piatra Neamt. The present name, SC Petrocart SA Piatra Neamt, was adopted in 1990.

Technologically, Petrocart invested in the most efficient solutions available at the time being. After the year 2000, significant investments were made for:

• flow restyling for the further implementation of clean technologies with the effect of diminishing the input and complying with the IPPC requirements (Integrated Pollution Prevention Control);
• updating the technology for wastepaper processing by setting up a new unit for manufacturing the wastepaper pulp;
• organizing the road transportation with a direct diminishing effect on the supplying and distribution costs;
• increasing the tissue paper machine capacity from 3,000 t/year to 10,000 t/year;
• acquiring the latest technologies for tissue paper finishing, paper rolls cutting, as well as for packaging automation;
• increasing by 50% the production capacity of the transformers cardboard manufacturing unit;
• taking the final step in the process of ensuring the energetic independence of the company by 'producing thermal and electric energy in a co-generated system'.

The next investment project of the company targets the manufacture of moulded cardboard pieces for transformers.
